MyBible for Android – settings reset

⬆︎ All guides

There are no apps without defects out there, and MyBible is no exception. So it may occasionally get into a situation when a combination of its settings causes the app hanging during startup. It may look like a never closing splash screen or an empty screen with no reaction to user actions.

The way out of this is to reset MyBible settings to their default state (resetting of the app settings does not affect any of the user-entered data – notes, bookmarks, remarks, appearance themes, etc.) Since the app is not responding, a special way to do this is to be used.

MyBible versions 5.8.1-5.8.4 has the settings reset button, a white wrench icon, at the bottom of the splash screen – shown for 1.2 seconds during the MyBible startup. However, this delaying of the startup is noticeable and undesirable, – was explicitly objected by several users. So, in MyBible 5.8.5 and newer the settings reset button is shown only when MyBible starts with its cache cleared.

The actions to reset MyBible settings (and thus to recover from the “hanging at startup” situation) for MyBible 5.8.5 and newer are:

  1. Clear the MyBible cache:
    • Go to the MyBible App Info window:
      • Long-touch the MyBible icon on your device’s desktop.
      • Select the “App Info” popup menu item.
    • Tap “Force stop”.
    • Tap “Storage usage”.
    • Tap “Clear cache”. Please be attentive – clear cache, not clear data, as data contain your notes, bookmarks, etc.
  2. Tap the MyBible settings reset button:
    • Start MyBible.
    • Tap the white wrench button at the bottom of the splash screen – it is shown there for 5 seconds.
    • Follow instructions in the appeared dialog.
